Welcome to Via Baltica, your “information superhighway” for up-to-date news from the three Baltic tigers of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania! Our founder and editor-in-chief is Kerkko Paananen, senior news analyst with more than two decades of expertise in covering current affairs in the Baltic States.
We provide free summaries of top news in the Baltic region. The summaries are grouped by specific categories and tags. You can follow us on Bluesky, Mastodon, and Threads, or subscribe to our RSS feed or our free daily or weekly newsletter via Mailbrew. You can find us on Facebook, Telegram, and X/Twitter; however, we have halted posting on those platforms for now.
Our RSS feed and the daily newsletter both include the full text of all new posts. Do note that you can generate separate RSS feeds for each category or tag, or combine two or more categories or tags into one single RSS feed. We do not have a dedicated application to enable notifications, but you can set up your preferred third-party application for that purpose.
If you wish to contribute to Via Baltica, you can do so by submitting your draft news summaries using our contact form. The summary should be one short paragraph that contains the main points of the news story and a link to the original article. We prefer that the original articles be in English, but summaries of stories in other languages are welcome as well.
Please note that Via Baltica is a purely voluntary project. We are not in a position to provide any remuneration for user contributions. Also, our news service is still more of a “proof of concept” than a ready product, and will most likely remain so for the time being. We welcome any feedback from readers, preferably using the contact form on our website. Thank you.
