Baltic and US officials held high-level security consultations in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, on 12 September 2024, BNS reports. The meeting was attended by Jonatan Vseviov, secretary general of the Estonian Foreign Ministry, Andzejs Vilumsons, state secretary at the Latvian Foreign Ministry, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, and US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell. The officials discussed the implications of Russia’s war in Ukraine for European and Indo-Pacific security. Vseviov argued that “Europe and the US can only be successful if they act together.” The Latvian Foreign Ministry pointed out that transatlantic and Indo-Pacific security was closely linked, and stressed the need for more support in the Indo-Pacific region for Ukraine, LSM reported. Landsbergis and Campbell agreed that China had become one of Russia’s most important accomplices in the war against Ukraine.
