Baltic: Defence ministers to seek NATO, EU support for regional defence infrastructure

The defence ministers of the three Baltic States met with a high official of Poland’s Defence Ministry in Latvia’s Daugavpils to discuss the strengthening of regional defence infrastructure, LSM reports. Latvian Defence Minister Andris Spruds stressed the importance of implementing NATO decisions to strengthen the defence of the alliance’s eastern flank, including regional air-defence capabilities. The officials agreed on seeking NATO and EU support for the construction of the so-called Baltic Defence Line. Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur pointed out that the defence infrastructure was in the interests of the entire EU, ERR reported. The Baltic Defence Line will run along the eastern borders of the Baltic States and join with Poland’s Eastern Shield project.
