Baltic: Latvian, Polish presidents underscore US ties

The Baltic States and Poland can become a bridge to reinforce relations with the United States, Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics said, LETA reports. Speaking at a joint press conference with visiting Polish President Karol Nawrocki in Riga, Rinkevics called on countries in the region to ensure that transatlantic ties are strengthened rather than weakened. He pointed out that US strategic documents stated that a strong Europe was in the interests of the US. However, Europe still had much work to do on defence, economy, and technology, Rinkevics added. Meanwhile, Nawrocki said that Poland and Latvia were unanimous about the importance of close Euro-Atlantic cooperation and US presence for regional security, LETA reported. Countries in Central and Eastern Europe did not have time to deal with less important issues because security was now the priority, he stated.
