Baltic: NATO reaffirms plan to deploy full brigades in Baltic region

NATO has affirmed decisions taken at the alliance’s Madrid summit in 2022 to deploy more combat-ready forces to the Baltic States, LRT reports. NATO allies will increase their troop presence in the region to brigade-size units. Meanwhile, German Defence Minister, Boris Pistorius, announced that Germany’s deployment of a full brigade in Lithuania would be done on a bilateral basis, rather than as part of NATO’s plans. He said that Germany would draw up a road map for the deployment before the end of 2023. Germany leads NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence battalion in Lithuania.
