The new National Security Strategy (NSS) of the United States shows that the US understands the security sensitivities of the Baltic region, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene stated, BNS reported. Speaking after a joint meeting with her Estonian and Latvian counterparts in Riga, Ruginiene said that the US had assured that it would not withdraw its troops from Lithuania “for two more terms.” Meanwhile, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina pointed out that the NSS did not represent all aspects of US foreign policy. Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal stressed that it was “very important to remember that our security problem was related to Russia,” not US President Donald Trump. Also, Ruginiene noted that the US had made no suggestions of a thaw in relations with Russia. During their meeting, the Baltic prime ministers highlighted the importance of unity among the three Baltic States, LETA reported. They reaffirmed their shared goal of allocating 5% of GDP to defence in 2026.
