The share of renewable sources in total energy consumption in the Baltic States was highest in Latvia in 2022, LSM reports. Eurostat data showed that 43.3% of Latvia’s gross final energy consumption came from renewable sources in 2022, which was up from 42.1% in 2021. Estonia came in second with 38.5% (37.4%), followed by Lithuania with 29.6% (28.2%). The EU average was 23.0% (21.9%). The share of renewable energy in gross electricity consumption amounted to 53.3% (51.4%) in Latvia, 29.1% (29.2%) in Estonia, and 26.5% (21.3%) in Lithuania. In heating and cooling, renewables accounted for 65.4% (61.3%) of energy use in Estonia, 61.0% (57.4%) in Latvia, and 51.5% (48.6%) in Lithuania. In transport, the share of renewable energy use amounted to 8.5% (11.1%) in Estonia, 6.7%% (6.4%) in Lithuania, and 3.1% (6.4%) in Latvia.
