Most Estonians support the re-election of President Alar Karis for a second term in office, according to a new Norstat poll for the Institute for Societal Research (YI), Baltic News reports. The survey conducted in early March 2026 shows that 70% of respondents support and 17% oppose electing Karis for a second term. He is overwhelmingly the most popular among potential candidates with over 40% support. Karis has support from voters of all major parties, ERR reports. As many as 81% of voters of both the Estonian Centre Party (Keskerakond) and the Social Democratic Party (SDE) back Karis. His support among voters of Fatherland (Isamaa) stands at 79%, Right-Wingers (Parempoolsed) at 76%, and the Estonian Reform Party at 75%. Meanwhile, only 55% of voters of the Conservative People’s Party of Estonia (EKRE) favour Karis. The Estonian parliament, the Riigikogu, will elect the president in September 2026.
