Estonia could close its border with Russia after Russian border guards crossed illegally into Estonian territory, Interior Minister Igor Taro stated, ERR reports. The government will discuss a possible revision of the current threat assessment. Taro said that the response should be proportional. Estonian and Russian border guards met to discuss the incident. Even though the incursion was recorded on video, the Russian representatives claimed that no illegal crossing had taken place. Taro said that the Russians “no longer understood” where the temporary control line between Estonia and Russia runs. Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna noted that Russia constantly tries to push the border in geographically complex areas. Estonia’s Police and Border Guard (PPA) proposed taking up the issue to a higher level, ERR reports.
