Estonia: Centre Party, Fatherland sign Tallinn coalition agreement

Estonia’s opposition Estonian Centre Party (Keskerakond) and Fatherland (Isamaa) have signed a coalition agreement to govern Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, for the next four years, ERR reports. Under the agreement, the posts of mayor and city council chairman will alternate between the two parties, and the parties will have three deputy mayors each. Keskerakond’s Mihhail Kõlvart said that the coalition would increase support for families, education, and pensioners, as well as maintain free public transport. Isamaa’s Peeter Raudsepp said that the coalition would speed up planning, reduce bureaucracy, and improve international cooperation to attract investment. The two parties agreed not to introduce new local taxes or raise existing taxes. Also, they pledged to work together to eliminate the national car tax after the next parliamentary elections.
