The Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (RKIK) has signed a contract to buy six K239 Chunmoo self-propelled multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS) from South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace for EUR 290mn, ERR reports. Under the deal, Hanwha will deliver the MLRS units within two years. Additional units and longer range may be added later. Also, Hanwha will invest an estimated EUR 40-60mn in Estonia’s defence industry over the next decade. Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur said that the Chunmoos will complement Estonia’s existing deep-strike capabilities. Earlier, Estonia acquired 36 units of K9 self-propelled howitzers from Hanwha Aerospace, which are due to be delivered by the end of 2026.
