Estonian transmission system operator Elering’s frequency reserve tender has attracted interest from both local and international participants, ERR reports. The tender is aimed at providing price certainty in the frequency reserve market as Estonia will withdraw from the Russian electricity system in February 2025. The total capacity to be awarded under the tender will amount to 500 MW, and the minimum bid size will be 25 MW. Elering has extended the tender deadline until the middle of July 2025. The company expects the tender to result in the construction of several small natural gas-fuelled power plants. The frequency containment reserve is a mechanism to keep the electricity grid stable and reliable.
