Estonia: Estonia, Finland to strengthen protection of undersea energy infrastructure

Estonian Climate Minister Yoko Alender and Finland’s Minister of Environment and Climate, Kai Mykkänen, have signed a memorandum of understanding on increased cooperation in protecting critical undersea energy infrastructure, BNS reports. Under the agreement, Estonia and Finland will set up a steering group to develop their cooperation on ensuring the resilience and security of undersea energy infrastructure, including through enhanced surveillance and repair capabilities. The ministers pointed specifically to the Balticconnector gas pipeline and the two EstLink electricity transmission cables, ERR reported. Meanwhile, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New York, calling on China to engage in “constructive cooperation” on the investigation into the rupture of the Balticconnector pipeline by a Chinese cargo ship, ERR reported.
