Europe has finally received the message, “loud and clear,” from successive US presidents that Europeans must take responsibility for their own security, Jonatan Vseviov, secretary general of the Estonian Foreign Ministry, said, ERR reports. He insisted that Europe must stand firm behind the principles that have made the current European security order possible — territorial integrity and sovereignty. Commenting on Finnish President Alexander Stubb’s recent statements on a possible compromise for peace in Ukraine, Vseviov urged to imagine a situation where both the murderer and their victim were expected to compromise. Estonia does not support surrender, he stated. Also, holding up Finland during the era of Finlandisation as a model to emulate was wrong, he added. Russia has not abandoned its goal to subjugate Ukraine, Vseviov noted. “We have to stay the course, and we must not diminish ourselves in our own eyes,” he argued. “Why do we keep thinking of ourselves as smaller or weaker than we really are,” Vseviov asked.
