Recent remarks by Estonian President Alar Karis have led to questions from foreign partners about Estonia’s position on the war in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said, ERR reports. Following his visit to Kyiv, Tsahkna said that the President’s suggestions of possible EU talks with Russia, lifting sanctions, and for Ukraine to cede territory had made it difficult to look Ukrainians in the eye. Estonia’s foreign policy does not involve trying to make deals with Russian President Vladimir Putin, easing pressure on Russia, and telling Ukrainians to divide up their land, the minister insisted. If the President has proposals on changes to Estonia’s foreign policy, he should discuss them with the government, not through the media, Tsahkna stated. “This isn’t some war movie you can order from Netflix where, if it gets boring or uncomfortable, you just skip to the next one — this is a real war,” he noted.
