The Estonian government has agreed to privatise the state-owned postal services company, Omniva (Eesti Post), through a public auction, ERR reports. Sigrid Soomlais, undersecretary for regional development at the Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture, said that the main reasons for the decision to sell off the company were the changed market situation and the decline in the use of postal services. In recent years, Omniva has focused on commerce and logistics services, and the company earns most of its profit from operations abroad. Omniva is obligated to provide universal postal services (UPS), which account for around 5% of the company’s net revenue, until 2029. In the future, Omniva would ensure UPS through procurement tenders and regulation, Soomlais said, BNS reports.
