Estonia will close two more crossing points on the border with Russia at night as of 24 February 2026, initially for a period of three months, ERR reports. The Koidula and Luhamaa border crossing points will be closed to all traffic at night. Prime Minister Kristen Michal pointed to Russia’s “irrational behaviour” as the reason for the move. Interior Minister Igor Taro said that the redeployment would allow diverting border and custom officials to where they are needed most. He noted that the number of crossings of the border with Russia totalled 1,084,320 in 2025, including 626,470 at Narva, 239,542 at Luhamaa, and 213,910 at Koidula. The Narva border crossing point has been closed at night since 1 May 2024.
