Estonia should strengthen cooperation with Taiwan and consider opening a Taiwanese representative office (Taipei Mission) in Tallinn, Marko Mihkelson, chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the Estonian parliament, the Riigikogu, stated, ERR reports. Speaking after a joint visit by the heads of the foreign affairs committees of Baltic parliaments to Taiwan, Mihkelson noted that Estonia was the only Baltic state not to have a Taiwanese representative office at the moment. Also, he called for sending an Estonian trade representative to Taiwan. The Baltic committee chairmen met with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, who noted that both Taiwan and the Baltic States had experienced authoritarian rule and had struggled for democracy. “Facing growing authoritarianism, no democracy should have to fight alone,” Tsai stressed.
