The Estonian government will not raise wages for teachers in 2025, ERR reports. The Estonian Educational Personnel Union (EHL) has demanded that basic teacher salaries start at the level of the national average wage. However, Education Minister Kristina Kallas noted that the state did not have the money to meet EHL’s demand, which would require an additional EUR 80mn of budget funds. After negotiations, EHL chairman Reemo Voltri agreed that the desired pay rise would be unattainable. However, he stressed that it was crucial that the minimum teacher salary not fall below the average wage in 2025. Currently, teacher salaries are around 94% of the national average wage.
