Estonia: Number of births down to new record low in 2023: statistics

Estonia’s annual number of live births dropped to a new record low in 2023, according to data from the Ministry of Interior, ERR reports. The number of people born totalled 10,721 in 2023, which was down 867 from 11,588 a year earlier. Deaths totalled 15,832, which was down 1,413 from 17,245 in 2022. Deaths thus exceeded births by 5,111 in 2023. The number of marriages registered amounted to 5,822 (6,386) and divorces to 2,523 (2,434). The most popular names for girls were Sofia, Mia, and Eva, while the most popular names given to boys were Mark, Hugo, and Robin.
