Estonian President Alar Karis has expressed support for the Georgian people amid massive anti-government demonstrations across the country, ERR reports. Karis phoned Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, wishing her strength. Karis insisted that the Georgian government did not have a mandate to halt the aspiration of the majority of Georgians to join the EU. Also, he criticised the Georgian authorities for their heavy use of force against the protesters. Meanwhile, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna accused Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party of “destroying democracy.” Estonia has suspended development projects with the Georgian government. Earlier, the government in Tbilisi announced that it intended to halt the country’s EU membership bid until the end of 2028.
