Estonia’s retail trade turnover declined by 10% in May 2023, according to data from Statistics Estonia, The Baltic Guide reports. The total turnover of retail trade enterprises amounted to EUR 905mn, which was down 10% from the same month last year at constant prices. Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that grocery stores saw their sales drop by 3%, automotive fuel retailers by 4%, and stores selling manufactured goods by 15%. Compared to April 2023, the turnover of retail trade enterprises rose by 8%. However, when adjusting for seasonal and working-day factors, turnover decreased by 1% compared to the previous month. In the first five months of 2023, Estonia’s retail trade turnover dropped by 9% from a year earlier.
