Estonia’s ruling parties have agreed that the Social Democratic Party (SDE) will gain an additional ministerial portfolio in the new three-party coalition, Health Minister Riina Sikkut of SDE announced, ERR reports. At the moment, the Estonian Reform Party has five ministers and the post of prime minister, while SDE and Estonia 200 (E200) have three ministers each in the current coalition government, which took office in April 2023. More MPs have since joined SDE’s group in parliament. E200 chairman, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, denied that the coalition would have agreed on reapportioning ministerial posts, however. He insisted that E200 would not have to give up any post in government. Reform, SDE, and E200 plan to sign a new coalition agreement on 19 July 2024. The Estonian parliament, the Riigikogu, would then approve and President Alar Karis appoint the new government on 22 July 2024.
