The UK flag carrier, British Airways, will resume flights from Latvia’s Riga International Airport to London Heathrow Airport as of 29 October 2023, LSM reports. The company will have three flights per week on the route. Fredis Bikovs, director of the Riga Investment and Tourism Agency (Live Riga), said that the flights would be important for tourism and attracting investment. The Association of Latvian Travel Agents and Operators (ALTA) also pointed to the potential increase in the number of tourists. However, aviation expert Simonas Bartkus noted that British Airways would be a “niche player” who would have to compete with Latvian national air carrier airBaltic and Irish budget carrier Ryanair, both of which offer daily flights to the UK.
