Parties in Latvia’s coalition government will discuss possible changes to the management of the country’s national air carrier, airBaltic, LSM reports. Earlier, the airline announced that it would cancel nearly 4,700 flights in summer 2025 due to delays in aircraft engine maintenance. The company insisted that the delays were beyond its control. Aviation industry experts suggested that airBaltic wanted to reduce the number of unprofitable flights ahead of the company’s planned IPO. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Evika Silina said that she expected Transport Minister Kaspars Briskens to present a plan for the airline’s management and strategic development. Briskens said that airBaltic’s next shareholder meeting would assess the performance of the company’s supervisory board. Economy Minister Viktors Valainis demanded that airBaltic’s CEO, Martin Gauss, be dismissed, LSM reported. The demand was echoed by Armands Krauze, chairman of the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS), LETA reported.
