The European Commission has approved a financing package of EUR 305mn from the Connecting Europe Facility for transport infrastructure projects in Latvia during the 2021-2027 financial period, the Ministry of Transport announced, Baltic News Network reports. The ministry will allocate the funds to several key initiatives, including EUR 298mn for the Rail Baltica railway project, EUR 6.9mn for the modernisation of the Port of Liepaja, and EUR 620,000 for Latvia’s air traffic controller, Latvijas Gaisa Satiksme, for the implementation of the Eurocontrol air traffic management project. Financing contracts between the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and the funding recipients are scheduled to be signed in the third quarter of 2023.
