Latvia has recorded the country’s first outbreak of measles since 2018, according to the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC), LETA reports. SPKC has so far registered 36 cases, most of them children, and the number of cases continues to rise, LETA reports. Many of the infected children are students at Riga Waldorf School, LSM reported. The infection may have occurred at an event organised by Lithuanian alternative wellness speaker Liutauras Viktorinas in Riga in late February 2026, according to LSM. Viktorinas publicly rejects modern medicine, as per LSM. SPKC’s data show that around 14,000 children under the age of 17 years have not been vaccinated against measles in Latvia.
