The Latvian parliament, the Saeima, has approved amendments reducing state support for Ukrainian refugees in Latvia, LSM reports. The government will allocate EUR 39.7mn of budget funds to support Ukrainians in the country in 2026, which will be down from EUR 65mn in 2025. The government will stop support to those Ukrainians who have found employment. Also, the government will cancel the right to free public transport and remove the exemption from co-payment for health care services for Ukrainian residents. In the beginning of October 2025, there were altogether 31,152 Ukrainian citizens, including 6,977 minors, registered in Latvia. Around 500-600 Ukrainians seek temporary protection in Latvia each month.
