Latvia: MEP reelected EP vice-president, ex-MEP wanted across EU

Latvian MEP Roberts Zile has been reelected one of the 14 vice-presidents of the European Parliament, LSM reports. He is the only Baltic MEP elected to the post so far. Zile is a member of the opposition National Alliance, which is a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists group. He has served as MEP since 2004. Meanwhile, Inese Vaidere of Latvia’s ruling New Unity party, member of the European People’s Party, will replace Valdis Dombrovskis in the European Parliament, LETA reports. The Latvian government has nominated Dombrovskis for another term as Latvia’s EU commissioner. Finally, the Prosecutor General has issued a European Arrest Warrant on the former Latvian MEP, Andrejs Mamikins, LETA reports. He is accused of glorifying Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine. Mamikins has fled to Russia.
