Latvia: Nearly 600mn of aid sent to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion

Latvia has extended altogether EUR 595mn of aid to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression, which is equal to 0.85% of Latvia’s GDP, Ukrinform reports. Bilateral military assistance to Ukraine amounts to EUR 370mn. Foreign Minister Krisjanis Karins noted that Latvian support included macro-financial, humanitarian, and development aid. Also, Latvia has provided medical care for 240 Ukrainian soldiers. At the same time, Latvian civil society has donated over EUR 23.7mn to Ukraine through the Ziedot.lv charitable foundation. Karins called for a more systematic, long-term EU approach to support Ukraine, proposing a EUR 50bn aid instrument to be implemented by 2027.
