There can be no lasting peace in Ukraine without the US, Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics stated, LETA reports. Speaking in an interview with TV24, he noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump clearly had serious differences of opinion. However, the most important thing at the moment was not to exacerbate the situation further with mutual rhetoric, but to think how to improve it with diplomacy, Rinkevics stressed. “We must continue to support Ukraine” and “maintain US involvement in both Europe and NATO,” he insisted. Meanwhile, Latvian Defence Minister Andris Spruds advised against “dramatising” the controversial US statements on the war in Ukraine, LETA reported. Speaking in an interview with TV3, Spruds noted that “diplomacy does not always go smoothly.” He did not exclude the possibility of sending Latvian troops to Ukraine.
