Latvia: Number of non-cash payments up 6% in H1/2024

The number of non-cash payments executed in Latvia totalled 395 million in the first half of 2024, which was 6% more than in the same period of 2023, according to the Bank of Latvia, LSM reports. The value of all non-cash payments totalled EUR 491.8bn, which was up by 226% over a year. The volume amounts to 2.2 million payments worth EUR 2.7bn per day. Card payments accounted for 65.5%, customer credit transfers for 31.5%, and electronic money transfers for 3% of all non-cash payments. The number of non-cash payments rose due to an increase in card payments, while the surge in value was due primarily to intrabank transfers. Excluding intrabank payments, the value of credit transfers amounted to EUR 64.0bn, which was up 31% over a year.
