Latvia: Parliament raises smoking age limit to 20 years as of 2025

The Latvian parliament, the Saeima, has approved amendments raising the smoking age limit from 18 to 20 years as of 1 January 2025, LSM reports. The law covers cigarettes, tobacco products, herbal smoking items, electronic smoking devices, and refill containers. Violations can result in fines of EUR 280-700 for individuals and EUR 700-7,100 for legal entities. Those under 20 caught smoking may receive warnings or fines of up to EUR 15. The amendments include bans on smoking in gambling establishments, on the sale of flavoured electronic smoking products, and on the production and sale of smoking products resembling sweets, snacks, and toys.
