The number of passengers using land and air transport increased in Latvia, while the number of ferry passengers declined in the first half of 2024, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau (CSP), LSM reports. Passengers using land transport totalled 94.7 million in six months, which was up 1.6% from the same period of 2023. Altogether 50.5 million passengers travelled on regular bus routes, which was 3.0% less than a year earlier. Another 20 million passengers used trolleybuses (up 3.8%) and 15.2 million used trams (up 11.8%). The number of rail passengers totalled 9 million, which was up 9.7% on year. Meanwhile, Riga International Airport served a total of 3.2 million passengers in the first half of 2024, which was 3.7% more than a year earlier. Ferry passengers travelling through Latvia’s ports of Ventspils and Liepaja numbered 154,200, which was 10.1% less than in the first half of 2023.
