Latvia: PM Karins proposes government reshuffle

Latvia’s Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) has proposed a reshuffle of key ministerial posts in his three-party coalition government, LETA reports. Karins proposed that National Alliance MP Rihards Kols become foreign minister and that the United List take over the Ministry of Economy and New Unity the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development. Currently, New Unity holds the post of foreign minister, the National Alliance heads the Ministry of Economy, and the United List is in charge of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development. Also, Karins proposed that New Unity take over the chairmanship of the national security committee of the Latvian parliament, the Saeima, from the National Alliance. In case the National Alliance and the United List reject the proposal, Karins is ready to start negotiations on forming a new government with the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) and the Progressives.
