Latvia: PM lists four policy priorities in 2025

The four policy priorities of Latvia’s coalition government in 2025 are “security, support for families, economic growth, and reducing bureaucracy,” Prime Minister Evika Silina announced, LSM reports. She will begin individual meetings with ministers to discuss the priorities, according to LETA. Silina said that national security remained the government’s most pressing priority, highlighting the need to secure Latvia’s eastern border, join the European energy network, and strengthen national defence capabilities. Support for families will include social benefits, access to health care, ensuring primary education, improving the quality of education, and promoting a healthy lifestyle, Silina explained. The government will use EU funding to support economic growth, increase business innovation and productivity, and bolster export volumes. Also, the government will list state-owned enterprises on the stock exchange. Finally, the government will reduce bureaucracy in public administration and consider options to transfer some functions to the private sector, Silina said.
