Latvia: Public petition calls for ban on Elon Musk’s X platform

A public petition in Latvia is collecting signatures to restrict or ban US entrepreneur Elon Musk’s social media platform, X (former Twitter), in Latvia, BNS reports. The author of the legislative initiative, Gvido Grava, notes that an increasing volume of disinformation is being spread on X. He points out that X fails to comply with the EU’s Digital Services Act. The petition calls on the Latvian parliament, the Saeima, and the National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) to assess if X serves Latvia’s interests. Grava argues that the Latvian public would benefit from a “cleaner and higher quality digital information environment.” He urges X users to switch to other social media platforms.
