Latvia’s Consumer Rights Protection Centre (PTAC) has suspended the operations of the electronic moped rental company, Ride, following an accident resulting in the deaths of two teenage girls in Riga, LSM reports. The company insisted that the decision was unjustified and said it was considering a legal challenge. PTAC suspended the service to prevent minors using the mopeds. Ride does not require age verification although its rental terms only allow adults to use the service. Riga mayor Viesturs Kleinbergs noted that the company has registered the mopeds as electric bicycles, which do not require a driver’s licence to use. He said that discussions about applying stricter rules on public rental transport in Riga were ongoing.
