Latvia: Riga coalition parties want to continue working together

Representatives of the current ruling coalition in Latvia’s Riga city councilNew Unity, Code for Riga, National Alliance (NA), and the Latvian Association of Regions (LRA) — called for “statesmanlike thinking” in the work of the coalition, LETA reports. In a public statement, the factions emphasised that the current coalition should continue. Deputy mayor Vilnis Kirsis (New Unity), said that New Unity was ready to continue working in a team with those who made decisions and acted “in an adult manner.” Deputy mayor Linda Ozola (Code for Riga) warned that pro-Russia parties wanted to seize power in the capital. She insisted that there were no irresolvable conflicts with any factions. Meanwhile, deputy mayor Edvards Ratnieks (NA/LRA) criticised mayor Martins Stakis for “concentration of power,” saying that the coalition seems to have collapsed.
