Latvia: Road freight up, rail and sea freight down in 1-9/2025: statistics

The volume of freight carried by road and air increased in Latvia in the first three quarters of 2025, while the volume of freight carried by rail and sea decreased, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau (CSP), LSM reports. The volume of road freight totalled 59.2 million tonnes, which was 2% more than in the first nine months of 2024. Rail freight totalled 6.7 million tonnes, which was down 19.8% on year. The cargo turnover of Latvian ports amounted to 25.5 million tonnes (down 1.9%), including 12.3 million tonnes in Riga (down 6.6%), 6.4 million tonnes in Ventspils (down 14.7%), 5.1 million tonnes in Liepaja (down 2.7%), and 1.7 million tonnes in Latvia’s small ports (down 15.9%). Meanwhile, Riga International Airport’s cargo turnover totalled 14,200 tonnes, which was up 6.5% over a year.
