Latvia: Russia not ready for peace: President, Foreign Minister

Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics expressed doubts about Russia’s readiness for peace in Ukraine, LETA reported. Speaking at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Evika Silina, Rinkevics said that Latvia fully supported both security guarantees for Ukraine and efforts to achieve peace. He noted that the positions of the United States, Europe, and Ukraine were becoming more detailed and increasingly aligned on security and territorial issues. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Baiba Braze assured that Latvia would never recognise occupied Ukraine as part of Russia, LSM reported. Speaking at the closing of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, Braze noted that there was no indication of Russia’s readiness for peace. While welcoming US peace efforts in Ukraine, Braze stressed that the EU should use “all levers of influence” to achieve “peace through force” and put “maximum pressure” on Russia.
