The director general of Latvia’s State Revenue Service (VID), Ieva Jaunzeme, has informed the Ministry of Finance that she will not seek another term in office, LETA reports. Jaunzeme will continue to serve as head of VID until the end of her term on 12 February 2024, provided that VID manages to complete tasks set by the Ministry of Finance. Earlier, the ministry concluded that VID had failed to reach some of the performance goals of its development strategy for 2020-2022. Previously, the United List called on Finance Minister Arvils Aseradens to replace Jaunzeme and reform VID’s operations. In January 2023, Aseradens reprimanded Jaunzeme for delayed implementation of given tasks. In September 2022, then finance minister Janis Reirs suspended Jaunzeme from her post after several VID employees were detained on suspicion of corruption.
