The total volume of freight transported in Latvia by all means of transport decreased in the first half of 2023, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau, LSM reports. Cargo carried by land and pipeline transport totalled 41.8mn tonnes, which was 16.5% less than a year earlier. The volume of road freight alone amounted to 34.1mn tonnes, which was down 9.8% over a year. The volume of rail freight totalled 7.7mn tonnes, which was 36% less than a year before. The total cargo turnover of Latvian ports amounted to 20.2mn tonnes, which was 14.2% less than in the first half of 2022.
