The volume of transit shipments of cereal products from Russia via Latvia totalled 994,726 tonnes in the first half of 2024, which was up 39.3% from 714,097 tonnes in the same period of 2023, according to data from the State Revenue Service (VID), LETA reports. Wheat and maslin accounted for 598,705 tonnes of the total (up 19.6%), maize for 199,141 tonnes (down 4.8%), and barley for 183,691 tonnes. No barley from Russia transited Latvia in the first half of 2023. Latvia imported 214,800 tonnes of cereal products from Russia in the first six months of 2024, which was up 2.7% from 209,129 tonnes a year earlier. Maize accounted for 191,828 tonnes of the total, which was 5.4% less than a year earlier. The value of grain imports from Russia amounted to EUR 35.59mn, which was down 29.9% from the first half of 2023.
