Lithuania: Belarus holding 185 Lithuanian trucks: Customs

Belarus is holding altogether 185 Lithuanian trucks and trailers, Dovile Kraulaidiene, deputy director general of the Lithuanian Customs Department (LMD), announced, BNS reports. Earlier, the Lithuanian National Road Carriers Association (LINAVA) reported to authorities that 488 Lithuanian trucks were being detained in Belarus. However, publicly the association has provided much higher figures, claiming that as many as 4,000 vehicles, including 1,250 trucks, remained stuck in Belarus. Ignas Dobrovolskas, adviser to Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene, called on carriers to provide accurate information. Meanwhile, LINAVA plans to hold a protest in Vilnius to demand action from the government. The International Road Transport Union (IRU) has asked the State Customs Committee (DMK) of Belarus to provide vehicle counts and explain the reasons for the detentions, but has received no reply so far.
