Lithuania: EU withdraws WTO case over China’s restrictions on Lithuania

Lithuania does not oppose the European Commission’s (EC) decision to withdraw a case at the World Trade Organization (WTO) over China’s trade restrictions on Lithuanian goods, Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry announced, BNS reports. The EC argued that the main objectives of the dispute had been achieved and trade had resumed. However, the Foreign Ministry pointed out that China continued to impose restrictions on five categories of Lithuanian exports and sanctions on two Lithuanian banks. Also, the issue of diplomatic representation between the two countries remained unresolved, the ministry noted. China took coercive measures against Lithuania after the opening of a Taiwanese Representative Office in Vilnius in 2021.
