Lithuania’s 2024 presidential elections are approaching, with the incumbent, Gitanas Nauseda, being the clear favourite for re-election, LRT reports. The main intrigue lies in whether there will be a second round of voting. Besides Nauseda, five candidates from political parties and five independents have declared their intentions to run. The list includes notable figures like Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte, law professor Dainius Zalimas, and former health minister Aurelijus Veryga. Analysts suggest that while visibility is crucial for politicians, not all parties may nominate candidates due to resource considerations. The election is set for 12 May 2024, with potential runoffs two weeks later. The final list of candidates may change until the registration deadline of 19 February 2024.
