Lithuania: Interior Minister suggests stopping buses to Belarus, Russia

Lithuania may suspend regular passenger services to neighbouring Belarus and Russia, Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovic stated, BNS reports. He said that such a measure was “definitely worth considering” in response to growing security threats from Belarus. However, the question was whether the move would have any real impact on the Belarusian regime or instead only “fuel hostility towards the EU,” the minister cautioned. Kondratovic said that he would discuss the issue with his Latvian and Polish counterparts, stressing that any decision should be coordinated regionally. Currently, Lithuania has about 25 daily bus departures to and from Belarus. Earlier, Latvia’s Transport Ministry began drafting a plan to suspend regular bus routes to Belarus and Russia, LSM reported.
