Lithuania’s opposition Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LVZS) and Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) could form a two-party coalition government after the parliamentary elections in October 2024, LVZS chairman Ramunas Karbauskis stated, ELTA reports. Speaking in an interview with Ziniu Radijas, Karbauskis said that the two parties could have a stable majority in parliament. However, Karbauskis said that he would not support the candidacy of LSDP MP Gintautas Paluckas for prime minister, saying that Paluckas lacked the competence to lead the government. Karbauskis argued that LSDP had better candidates, such as the party’s chairwoman, MEP Vilija Blinkeviciute, for the position. Earlier, both Blinkeviciute and President Gitanas Nauseda named Paluckas as a possible candidate for prime minister.
