The General Jonas Zemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania (LKA) has opened an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) competence centre, Militarnyi reports. Defence Minister Laurynas Kasciunas said that the drone competence centre would teach how to fly drones and gain both theoretical and practical knowledge. LKA will organise both stationary courses in Vilnius and field courses in other cities across Lithuania. Altogether 480 students will be able to take the course by the end of 2024. In 2025, LKA expects at least 1,000 Lithuanians to complete the course. Currently, Lithuania has about 4,200 pilots authorised to operate drones.
